Tom Climent and Sarah Walker
-
September 17th - October 8th
A two person exhibition by Tom Climent and Sarah Walker will commence on September 17th, with the official opening happening on the 24th.
While both of these artists are Cork based each of them has seen a new development in their work recently, as a result of a temporary change in their environment.
Tom Climent who has previously drawn influences from Spanish art historical references, has spent several months living in Spain over the last few years. Usually known as a studio painter of large format works, last year saw Climent working outdoors, painting from the roof of his apartment which resulted in him choosing to work with a dramatically smaller scale. He feels that painting outdoors also had the effect of lightening his palette. And all elements of a figurative presence have been removed. Climent will show a series of works in this exhibition ranging in size from 22 x 27cm to 54 x 65cm.
Likewise Sarah Walker has seen a change in her work, influenced by a residency she has spent at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in North Co. Mayo. Interestingly, Walker’s work has gone in the opposite direction to Climent, with the scale dramatically increasing and her use of colour becoming more subtle. Inspired by Downpatrick Head, the strength of the forms within some of these paintings combined with the large scale(5ft x 7ft), gives them a boldness which marks a new departure in her work.
These recent developments in both the artists’ work, makes for extremely interesting viewing. The exhibition continues until October 8th, and is open Tuesday – Saturday 10.30 – 6.00.
Vaults Lorraine Neeson – Installation A graduate from the Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork in 2002, Lorraine Neeson is currently pursuing her MA at the Slade College of Art , London. 'Curtain' and 'Light Projection' the two pieces which will be shown at the Fenton Gallery, are part of a series of works where projection becomes both the subject and the object. She is interested in the exploration of two-dimensional and three dimensional space, and the immediate effect of the projection on the environment in which it exists. Ideas relating to representation and re-presentation are also explored.
Upcoming Exhibition- Pat Harris November 2004
