'Tony and Jane O'Malley - Graphic works'.
March 26th - April 24th
This is the first exhibition of Tony O’Malley’s work, to be organised with his wife , Jane's, involvement since his death around this time last year. A major exhibition of Tony ‘s work was last held at the Fenton Gallery in September 2000, a few months after the gallery’s opening. We are now delighted to be showing his graphic work alongside the work of his wife Jane O’ Malley.
This two person exhibition presents a stunning series of thirty two carborundum prints and etchings by Jane and Tony O’Malley. These exciting works, were made in 2000 – 2002 , in conjunction with the Graphic Studio Gallery in Dublin. Sadly these were the last two years leading up to Tony O’ Malley’s death.
“Though usually described as a painter, Tony has always incorporated a wide range of materials and techniques in his art making. Feathers, slate, stones, nails, etc. all have equal standing alongside the more traditional paint, pencil, pastel, inks etc. His approach to printmaking is no less innovative. Never a man to recognise limitations, plates are drilled, scratched and pushed to the limit.”
“In her painting, Jane moves with ease between oil, acrylic and pastel, and here she displays that she is equally at home with carborundum or etching. Echoing an approach used in an important series of pastel works from a number of years ago, Red Jug, Lanzarote has been printed on black paper to wonderful effect. Blue Mat, a striking carborundum work, utilises the space cleverly. Hand- applied gold leaf lends the image a special intimacy.” John Daly (excerpts from the full colour catalogue which accompanies this exhibition)
