Fenton Art Gallery: Linda Quinlan - 26th May - 17th June

Linda Quinlan - opens 26th May
26th May - 17th June 2006

Winner AIB Prize 2006

This exhibition presents Linda Quinlan’s work. Her interdisciplinary practice incorporates sculptural work, installations and drawings. Themes through the work include an exploration of mortality, how our lives are recorded and remembered, and the recurrent cycles of nature. She says of her work, “I am interested in the physical and physiological tensions set up between contrasting components, arrangement of objects in relation to the space.” Working mostly on site and often-reconfiguring materials from previous pieces, Linda's labours are obsessive, condensed and often temporary which adds a crucial time based element to her practice.

Born in Cork in 1977 Linda Quinlan completed studies at both the Crawford College of Art and Design and the National College of Art and Design. She now lives and works in Dublin. Linda was recently awarded the AIB prize 2006, Ireland’s most prestigious award for emerging artists. A solo exhibition of her work is scheduled for 2007 at the Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork. She is a Part-time lecturer of Fine art at The Dublin Institute of Technology and is co-founder of Four an exhibition space in Dublin. Her work is in the collection of The Irish Arts Council.

Recent exhibitions include Passing Through an exhibition at The Glucksman Gallery, Cork, Gemine: Muse, an exhibition at The Palazzo della Penna Museum, Italy, Suberbia 2, a Cork 2005 project, and Eurojets Anthology at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin. In 2005 she was awarded a commission from ‘Breaking Ground 2’, Ballymun’s percent for art programme and was selected as Emerging Artist Prize winner at the Claremorris Open in 2004, by David Thorpe of The Henry Moore Foundation, UK.
